Shirlee Read... The Kitchen Door
We're getting a jump on Thanksgiving this week by baking up some pumpkin pies!  Look for them at the booth, Pie for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, which will also have a broad array of other fruit and savory pies for your eating enjoyment. Also offered for the first time this year is the popular Pork and Apple Entree pie, frozen and ready for you to bake at home! All pies made from scratch by pie maker, Shirlee Read.

Thanks to www.epicurious.com, this should use a lot of those end-of-season veggies in your garden, or at the farmers’ market:
Autumn Minestrone

2 tablespoons canola or other vegetable oil
1 cup chopped onions
2 garlic cloves, minced or pressed
2 1/2 cups peeled and cubed winter squash (acorn, delicata or buttercup)
2 celery stalks, diced
1/2 cup peeled and diced carrots
2 1/2 cups cubed potatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
6 cups water
4 cups chopped kale
1 1/2 cups cooked or canned cannellini beans (15-ounce can, drained)
Warm the oil in a large soup pot on medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté for 5 minutes. Add the squash, celery, carrots, potatoes, oregano, salt, pepper, and water and cook for 10 minutes or until the potatoes are almost done. Add the kale and beans and simmer for another 5 to 7 minutes, until the kale is tender and the beans are hot. Serve immediately.

Gerry and Larry... Tree-Top Baking
Granny Smith apples and sweetened dried cranberries in a rich caramel glaze top our Cran-Apple Dessert Cake...one of the most flavorful combinations we've baked this year. Plain, or topped with a dollop of whipped cream, this would make the perfect ending to for a rustic Fall meal.

Useless Bay Wines is happy to release its 2010 Syrah! This bold Syrah is the perfect antidote to the increasingly dark and chilly evenings. 92% Syrah and 8% Malbec make for an intriguing combination full of spicy, robust flavors with a dark inky color and long aftertaste. This wine has vibrant acidity and soft tannins with flavors of black cherry and licorice. Delicious paired with hearty, warming dishes, stews, grilled meats and roasts. $26/bottle - 10% off purchase of a case (12 bottles).

Also available: 2010 Riesling (off-dry) and 2010 Sunset Rosé

In celebration of nourishment, enjoyment and living on the edge, our family began Live Edge Farm and Useless Bay Wines. Perched on a two hundred foot bluff overlooking Useless Bay and the Olympic Peninsula, we bring you handcrafted wines with heart.

Stop by our booth and pick up a bottle or two - only 2 markets left!!

Well, almost it, only 2 more weeks of fresh cheeses and we’re done for the season (we will have some aged cheeses at the Holiday Market!). For those who weren’t aware, cheese is a seasonal product. The time is quickly coming upon us where the working girls’ priority is to make healthy happy babies for us, so we can have fresh delicious milk next season. They have worked hard all year and they deserve the rest. The farmers market draws to an end in unison with our cheesemaking.

You can choose to have cheese through the winter (I’ll give you hints for freezing/storing for your winter delight), or you can just choose to enjoy the last of the fresh cheese now.

I love making cheese with fall milk, the result is always spectacular. Come taste the seasonal difference, you won’t be disappointed!

Willowood Farm "Fill up the Pantry/Root Cellars and Garage!" days...
Two more markets to go and Willowood Farm's has WHEELBARROWS FULL (literally!) of great winter storage veggies.  Stock up on beautiful and tasty winter squash; onions of all colors, shapes and sizes; potatoes to fill the tummies on cold and dreary winter days; gourmet dry beans to replenish the body and soul and of course loads and loads of garlic!  Not to mention two more weeks of the tender and sweet fall greens - kales, chards, collards, mesclun, spinach, arugula, cabbage, kohlrabi and loads more!   See you at Bayview!
