Pam Mitchell... Pam's Place Produce
Peas and broccoli and spinach, oh my! More great veggies are coming in, and the few days of heat we had are beginning to ripen the strawberries, which means summer is just around the corner.
Pick up a few more lettuce starts to tuck into an empty corner of your garden for succession salads through the summer, or a tomato start to put in a container, where the warmer soil will promote more fruiting.
Don’t forget to return your empty band pots, bring your own carry bag, and I’ll see you at the market on Saturday!

This week we introduce a new bread, Sprouted Spelt, a very close cousin to Sprouted Wheat. This bread has a natural "nutty" flavor, with a touch of sweetness from ground raisins. Also, we bring back for the first time this season Angel Food Cakes, perfect with the first of the season Island Grown Strawberries.

Fresh Garlic Scapes and a a whole lot more... "Garlic scapes are the "seed stalks" from hardneck garlic. They are a once-a-year seasonal treat as each garlic only makes one scape and it takes almost a year to grow garlic! They have a pleasantly mild garlic taste (and zing!) and a great "asparagus-like" texture. You can use them raw, pickle them, grill them, puree them, bake them..."

Specialty pies this week at the booth, Pie for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are Chocolate Cream (this is not your basic chocolate pudding pie, but made from scratch with dark chocolate and cream) and Lemon Meringue with "mile-high" meringue. A generous selection of fruit pies is always available or you can get a frozen, bake-it-yourself savory chicken or meat pie for dinner. Also available this week--Potato/Cheddar Cheese/Onion Pie or Broccoli/Feta/ Bacon Quiche, both excellent choices for lunch or a light dinner. Some popular pies sell out quickly, so ordering ahead is always a good idea. 360-730-2322 or slread@whidbey.com
